I know I never really post here but I'm wanting to write more fiction and put it up here. Also I since the only comments I seem to get are spam I'm disabling them. You can still contact me and my email is on the about page.

She hesitated on that last step. The train stood before her like some strange magnificent beast. She knew that if she took one more step she would be free. She could still turn around and return to the only life that she ever knew. Despite her hate for that life she almost turned around. However it was the haunted memory of her mother laughing and saying, “You’ll see, you will return to us. You will never be able to leave us behind.” That steeled her nerves and got her to step onto the train.

The train was crowded and she had to stand rather then sit. She didn’t worry too much about it however. Standing for the four hours wouldn’t be that hard, she had already undergone much worse. Well prepared people had gotten private cabins so that they could relax on the journey but those spots had all been sold out by the time she had gotten her ticket, not that she could have afforded them anyway.

The train doors closed and the train shook as it took up up the pass toward the mountain city of Vigil. She could see the practically shining faces of people packed with dreams and knew that many of them would be shattered. She envied those people that would return to their homes disappointed and continue their otherwise normal lives.

As she looked over the people crowding the train she noticed a large gap in the crowd. Curious she squeezed her way past people until she could get a clear view. Sitting on one of the benches was a man. At first glance you might not see anything remarkable about him. Around 6ft tall, brown hair, wearing slacks and a button up short sleeved shirt. Then you saw his silver eyes which seemed to watch everything at the same time.

She could feel his presence on her skin and she was sure that everybody else could too. They were all keeping a wide berth from him. They could all tell somebody who was going to succeed at the test today and nobody seemed to want to cross him. His presence however didn’t bother her though. It rolled off her calmly, the aura was still young and untrained, easy for someone to ignore. Assuming of course that you had felt something like it before and had practice dealing with it.

While she would have no trouble standing for four hours she felt sorry for the unused seats. She stepped into the empty area and could hear a gasp of somebody nearby. It must seem unthinkable to them for somebody to step up to someone as kingly as the man sitting there. Then like it was totally normal she asked the man, “Do you mind if I join you?”

There was silence in the train as everybody in the car stopped to listen. The man glanced up at her with his silver eyes. Then he shrugged an motioned to the seat, “Sure, I don’t mind.”
